HONORED POLICE STAR
Description and purpose of the Honored Police Star award.

Description: Granted as an award of honor conferred upon the star of any deceased Sworn Department Member who met their death in circumstances which are unique or characteristic of the police service or which imply that they proceeded without regard for their personal safety while in the performance of their duty. This award designation will be a tribute to the member’s courage and dedication.
Stars issued to sworn members which are selected as an “Honored Police Star” are retired and enshrined in the Superintendent’s Honored Star Case. At the time this award was established, the 326 stars which were previously retired and enshrined in the Superintendent’s Honored Star Case were designated as “Honored Stars” by Special Order No. 62-50 issued by Superintendent of Police Orlando W. Wilson.
