LINE OF DUTY DEATHS

A Line of Duty Death is classified as the death of an active sworn member by felonious or accidental means during the course of performing police functions while on or off duty.

PERFORMANCE OF DUTY DEATHS

A Performance of Duty Death is classified as the death of a sworn member who dies while on or off duty and such death results from a condition, injury, or illness that was not directly related to the member’s performance as a law enforcement officer.

MILITARY SERVICE DEATHS

A Military Service Death is classified as the death of a member of the Chicago Police Department who has been killed serving their Country in the armed forces while on leave from the Department.

CANINE & EQUINE DUTY DEATHS

A Canine & Equine Duty Death is classified as the death of a dog or horse of the Chicago Police Department who has died or have been killed in the line of duty.
