Patrolman Samuel G. Lynch, Star #10016, aged 46 years, was a 12 year, 4 month, 12 day veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 1st District – Central.

On November 13, 1969, Officer Samuel Lynch was found at approximately 911 South Clark Street lying beside his overturned 3-wheel police motorcycle. The officer appeared to have been the victim of a hit and run traffic crash.

Officer Lynch was transported to Presbyterian St. Luke Hospital where he died shortly after his arrival from a cardiac arrest. The hit-and-run driver was never apprehended.

Officer Lynch’s funeral mass was held at A.R. Leak Funeral Home located at 7838 South Cottage Grove Avenue. He was laid to rest on November 20, 1969 in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 West 111th Street, Alsip, Illinois. His grave is located in Grave 5, Lot 11, Block 42, Section 41.

Patrolman Samuel G. Lynch, born November 7, 1923, received his Probationary Appointment to the Chicago Police Department on July 1, 1957. He earned 4 Honorable Mentions during his career.

Officer Lynch was survived by his wife, Astor (nee Moore) and children. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Lottie (nee Ellis).

On February 20, 2008, Officer Lynch’s star was retired by Superintendent Jody P. Weis and enshrined in the Superintendent’s Honored Star Case, located in the lobby at Chicago Police Headquarters, 3510 South Michigan Avenue.
